Why you became a Banting Buddies weight loss coach?
Banting really works! I am passionate about nutrition, and in particular, I believe in the Low-carb Hi-fat (LCHF) Lifestyle, as many people are insulin resistant or have a negative reaction to gluten. The plan is not only to lose weight, but also to improve health, energy and mental capacity. I have a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition and this knowledge helps me to add even more value to my clients, especially those with other health issues.
I want to share this amazing lifestyle and help as many people as I can, so that they can regain their confidence and live life feeling wonderful! I feel for those doing their best to lose weight or get healthy but are failing through a lack of knowledge. People who carry extra weight cannot metabolise carbohydrates as well as others. So telling them to eat less and exercise more is not helpful, it depends on what you eat and drink. We coach our clients to success on a sustainable and enjoyable lifestyle.
We promote eating real food that God put on earth for you to enjoy and that He designed your body to digest (including good fat). This lifestyle will therefore enable you to get the best out of your body, as we have seen with professional athletes that benefit enormously in performance and endurance, while maintaining muscle mass.
How have you personally benefited from Banting?
I have lost weight and kept it off with the Low-carb Hi-fat way of eating. (Losing weight was not the problem – but keeping it off was.) LCHF really is sustainable because the cravings for sweet things and starch go away very quickly. You are also not hungry as fat is an appetite suppressant and makes your food taste great!

Apart from being involved in nutrition and food supplements, I have also taught exercise for many years, including Aerobics, Step, Callanetics, Kata-box and Pilates. I enjoy many varied watersports, walking, gym and Pilates.
I am married, have two daughters, a son-in-law, two grandsons and a granddaughter– my family is the joy of my life!

‘I was one of those who was taught, that in order to run a 10km race, I had to fill up on potatoes, pasta, bananas & other carbs. I also used to eat at least five different fresh fruit types per day, loved my sweetened yogurt as well as at least one or two sweet treats per day such as a slice of cake or chocolate. In addition, I avoided any form of fat and oil intake because I grew up with the notion that fatty foods will lead to extra weight gain.
Over the last couple of years, I slowly gained at least one kg of weight per year until I was about 6 kg overweight. I further experienced health issues such as pain in my finger joints, extreme sinusitis, my cholesterol level kept rising and my thyroid got enlarged. Needless to say that my doctor prescribed lots of medication to treat each of the above conditions. Having researched the LCHF Banting diet concept, I knew I had to give it a go. To the disbelieve of my general practitioner, I informed him of my decision to cut all medication and to start with the Banting diet.
Once on the Banting diet, I lost one kg of weight per week and reached my goal within six weeks. Further benefits I experienced was that my cholesterol level decreased from 6.8 to 5.2 and the pain in my finger joints as well as my sinusitis completely disappeared! My poor husband was obviously ‘forced’ to be on the Banting diet by default. His cholesterol level dropped from 8.5 to 5.1!’
