Why you became a Banting Buddies weight loss coach?

I absolutely LOVE good food, and have a huge passion and enthusiasm for nutrition, health, well being and cooking fabulous delicious food and most of all, engaging with people. I have always loved sport and exercise and am always in pursuit of the happy equilibrium that comes from living a balanced healthy life; body mind and spirit. One can’t address problems with pills, it’s about getting the basics right: Diet. Sleep. Exercise. Play.

I have a dedicated passion to assist and motivate people find their way back to a happy healthy life, free of ill-health and weight issues. Connecting people to real food and developing healthy sustainable eating habits. I love that with Banting you can decide what to eat and what not to eat and never feel hungry or deprived. I am happiest when helping and motivating people become the best they can be in every way.

How have you personally benefited from Banting?

I grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) and we naturally ate food mostly in accordance with Banting principles, bacon and farm eggs for breakfast, grew our own vegetables and as a family we were sporty, slim, fit and healthy. During and post my university years my weight would go up and down a bit and I thus embarked on a few diets, Hip and Thigh diet to name but one of a few.

The best thing about eating à la the Banting lifestyle is I know I can eat the food I love and not gain an ounce! I enjoy good wine too, a wonderful accompaniment to good food. I endured some devastating losses in my early life, which triggered chronic fatigue syndrome and I suffered from depression as a result and added to this I developed IBS. I had a very demanding career in advertising as an art director which I loved and not withstanding, held together well until one early morning meeting I collapsed with a bleeding ulcer. Deep-seated grief and ensuing ill-health, demands that one dig deep within your soul to find a way back to a healthy happy life and equilibrium. Banting is a breath of fresh air and offers practical and delicious solutions with the potential to restore, replenish, reshape, and re-energise.

Other interests and background info:

I studied Fine Art in Natal and entered the world of design and advertising which spanned a career of 26 years, first in Johannesburg then moved to Cape Town in 1991. I grew up with horses, we had 30 on the farm and I successfully competed in showjumping and dressage. Horses were (still are) my whole world and in my heart and soul, I had wanted at one stage to become an equine veterinarian.

I gave up my design studio of 10 years in 2007 and returned to painting, horses. I dearly missed people as painting is a solitary pursuit and I am happiest when communicating and engaging with people.

My husbands passion is sailing, so every year in May / June we go sailing in Greece, which also builds character! I love the whole approach to a happy healthy balanced life and love walking in the outdoors, yoga, riding, the company of special friends and family, sunshine, good food and wine.
